History of the Wedding Favor

Favors have been a part of wedding traditions for centuries. In the beginning, the upper class of Europe would give sugar in a box called a bomboniere. Sugar, at the time, was extremely expensive and thought to have medicinal properties. As the price of sugar decreased over time, the idea of giving favors to guests spread among the middle classes as well.

Traditionally , 5 almonds are given in a small box, tin or wrapped in tulle, which represent fertility, longevity, wealth, health and happiness.
